Planned Gifts are an important part of Helping Hands' income. Since 1979, many projects and advances to the program have been accomplished because caring individuals made provisions for our monkey helpers in their wills to ensure people would always have the option of turning to Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers when seeking enhanced independence and companionship.
Leaving a gift in your will is an easy way to give back and still make sure you're able to provide for yourself and your family throughout retirement.
The Simian Society recognizes donors who have chosen to leave a gift to Helping Hands in their will. Your decision to make a donation as part of your estate plans provides a legacy for the work we do every day. Simian Society members receive special communications from Helping Hands throughout the year and are invited to a special luncheon and tour.
If you have already included Helping Hands in your will--or are interested in learning more about making a gift--we'd like to make sure you are recognized as a Simian Society member. Please contact Angela Lett, Executive Director via email or at 617-787-4419 x114 so that we may officially welcome you into the Simian Society.
If you are writing or updating your will:
Remembering Helping Hands in your will or trust is easy to do. Simply provide a specific dollar amount. You may also designate Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc. to receive a specified percentage of your estate assets. The following is some sample language that you may use to remember us in your will or trust:
I give and bequeath to Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc , 541 Cambridge Street, Boston, MA 02134 the sum of $ (or specific asset or percent of the remainder of my estate) to be used for its general charitable purposes.
If you have Retirement Funds:
Did you know that you can support Helping Hands’s important life-changing mission by naming Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc. as the partial or sole beneficiary of your IRA, 401(K), 403(B), or other retirement assets?
Why use retirement assets to make a gift?
Since retirement plan assets may be subject to both income and estate taxes if left to heirs, estate planners often recommend that you designate all or a portion of the assets to a charitable organization such as Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc. By leaving such assets to Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc., you can pass other assets to your heirs which may lower the tax burden. Please speak to your accountant or lawyers for specific advice about your situation.
How can I name Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc as the beneficiary?
You should request a “change of beneficiary” form from your retirement plan administrator. On this form you can name Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc. as sole or partial beneficiary, or you can name us as a contingent beneficiary in case you are predeceased by your immediate beneficiary. On the form list us as:
Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled, Inc.
